How to fix cracked pipes

Cracked pipes can be an absolute menace to your home or business. Cracks can form in any of your home's pipes from flexi pipes under your sink to hot water pipes in your walls or underground drainage or sewage pipes. Pipes in your walls and under sinks can be easily replaced whether through crawl spaces or cutting a hole in the drywall they can be easily repaired and replaced with minimal intrusion to your home. Whereas underground pipes can be incredibly hard to replace as they can require extensive evacuation of your gardens or in some cases entirely impossible as the pipe is under your home slab or a shed. In these situations simply replacing a pipe can be an exorbitant cost this is where no dig pipe repair comes in.

What is No Dig Pipe Repair?

No dig drain repair allows for effective drain repair without having to dig up and replace the pipe. There are two types of no-dig drain repair, pipe relining and pipe patching. Both of these systems work in a similar way by using an epoxy-soaked felt to create an interior coating for the pipe. However, the major difference is how they go about this.

How does pipe patching work?

Pipe patching works by using an epoxy-soaked membrane that is set over a hole or crack in the pipe to seal and reinforce the pipe. Patching uses a balloon coated in the membrane which is pushed into the pipe to where the hole is. It is then inflated and left to set the balloon pushes the membrane against the pipe bonding it with the surrounding pipe. Once the patch is dry the balloon is deflated and removed from the pipe. The only problem with a pipe patch is that it only reinforces the pipe surrounding the patch leaving the rest of the pipe open to damage and cracks this is especially apparent in older pipes.

How does pipe relining work?

Pipe relining is the perfect one-and-done solution for old cracked pipes unlike a patch that just does one section it does the entire pipe. This system uses a felt sock soaked in epoxy the sock is then attached to a compressor that uses high-pressure air to push the sock through the pipe. The epoxy-soaked felt is then left to set against the walls of the pipe creating an inner coating that is stronger than the pipe surrounding it essentially creating a whole new pipe. This system is perfect for pipes that have had multiple cracks or root intrusions or old clay pipes that are getting weaker and weaker with time.
