Big steps toward solving the flushable wet wipe problem

The ACCC announced last month that it is pursuing legal proceedings against Kimberley-Clark Australia, makers of 'Kleenex Cottonelle Flushable Cleansing Cloths' and Pental, makers of 'White King Power Clean Flushable Toilet Wipes' and 'White King Flushable Bathroom Power Wipes', alleging that the companies made false or misleading representations in relation to 'flushable' wipes available in Australia.

The move is a big step towards solving the nation's costly sewage problems caused by these so-called 'flushable' wipes. It is also hoped the court action will assist in re-educating consumers.

Independent tests have shown that the wipes do not, in fact, break down once they've been flushed.

Keep the wipes out of the pipes

In more good news, Sydney Water has received an international award for its 'Keep the wipes out of the pipes' education campaign which calls attention to the fact that 75% of sewer blockages involved wet wipes.

Don't flush wet wipes down the toilet. Throw them in the rubbish instead.
